Worship and Resources
This links you directly to ideas for prayer and worship,
for shared services and for reflection during these difficult times.
In these uncertain times, we would welcome any donation you might like to make
to support the work of Old Church. Click the Banner to visit the donations page.
Old Church has re-opened for public worship, albeit operating under strict government and church guidelines relating to social distancing, to the maintenance of cleanliness, and to the prevention of the transmission of disease. As from 19th July, there will be two services of Holy Communion, one at 9.00 am and a second at 11.00 am. The church can accommodate around thirty worshippers for each service and we have written to all we know to be associated with Old Church, asking those who might wish to attend to choose between 9.00 am and 11.00 am. You will be sent a note, confirming that a place has been kept for you at one of the services, together with the service booklet. Worshippers are required to hand sanitise on entering the church and provide an address and ‘phone number when we do not have these. You may sit only in the seat to which you are directed. You will be required to observe social distancing. The precautionary principle suggests that worshippers should wear appropriate face masks. If you wish to apply for either of these services, then contact The Reverend Deb Buckley or Gill Gould using the ‘phone numbers on this website or through the Contact page. In addition to the services at church, there will be a Service of the Word through Zoom at 5.00 pm every Sunday.
Old Church will be providing the following services during Ordinary Time, up to October. Click the links to find more detail.
Churches are re-opening for private prayer, for weddings and for funerals. There are certain limitations in connection with all these uses. You should first ask the advice of the vicar or the Funeral Director, if relevant. The requirements of Government and the advice of the Archbishops are evolving and access to the church for a range of purposes is likely to increase over the next weeks and months.
Old Church has and will be developing ways of keeping in touch during these very difficult times, thinking particularly of those who through self-isolation or otherwise will need help with shopping, medications and the like. This will be coordinated with members of the Pastoral Care Team, the Pastoral Visiting Team and others in the congregation. If you would like to receive help, please ring one of those listed below,
The Reverend Deb Buckley: 0121 558 1763/07410 176378
Jean Martin, Churchwarden: 0121 554 2731
Gill Gould, Parish Administrator: 07824 368584
There is an Old Church WhatsApp site for those who would like to share thoughts over the next months. If you would like to join the site, the easiest way would be to send a message that includes your mobile number to, Paul Martin: 07785 995489 or email@example.com
There are increasing numbers of ideas for prayer and for services produced by the Church of England nationally.
The Church of England has produced a paper on Spiritual Communion, the sharing in the communion of Jesus Christ when a shared Eucharist is not possible – as now with coronavirus. It is written in English and in Farsi and includes an act of Spiritual Communion.

Please do not hesitate to make contact if you feel Old Church could be of help to you at these exceedingly difficult times. Apart from anything else, it is undoubtedly a time for our prayer for others and for ourselves as the disease spreads.
