 Coronavirus

Whilst coronavirus is present in most communities, the majority of people have some immunity. However, levels of immunity vary and some people will have a significant vulnerability to the disease and its long-term effects. That said, our government, in its wisdom, has removed all legal limits on the numbers of people allowed to meet indoors and outdoors, including all capacity limits in churches. The one-metre distancing rule no longer applies. As a consequence of these changes, the Churchwardens together with the PCC, following consultation with the members of the congregation, have decided to continue our current  pattern of worship for Sunday mornings.  Neither service will require pre-booking or the use of seating plans. Both services will show a proper concern for the prevention of infection. Both services will require hands to be sanitised. The doors will be opened front and back to encourage proper ventilation.

  • at 9.00 am, we will maintain the 2-metre separation so using only alternate rows. You will be required to wear facemasks. Music will be through CDs.
  • at 10.30 am, we will maintain a 1-metre separation so using all the rows. Facemasks are required. We will sing with enthusiasm – as always.

Communion will be available at both services in both kinds through intinction. At 9.00 am, it will be administered in the pews, at 10.30 am at the communion rails. Note that the second service is earlier than previously, at 10.30 am.

This arrangement for Sunday mornings will be fully reviewed as experience requires.

The arrangements for Occasional Offices, particularly weddings and funerals, are currently under review. If you require any further information, please contact the Churchwarden/Parish Administrator, Gill Gould, 07594 994246. You can do this using the Contact page on this website. For funerals, talk to your Funeral Director.

The 10.00 am service on Tuesdays is now held in church also. Although you will need to observe coronavirus precautions, booking is not required. Other Sunday Services will continue to be held on Zoom for the time being. The Zoom access details are often the same each week but, together with the service sheets, will be available here and on Old Church WhatsApp.

Old Church has and will be developing ways of keeping in touch during these very difficult times, thinking particularly of those who through self-isolation or otherwise will need help with shopping, medications and the like. This will be coordinated with members of the Pastoral Care Team, the Pastoral Visiting Team and others in the congregation. If you would like to receive help, please ring one of those listed below,

The Church of England has produced a paper on Spiritual Communion, the sharing in the communion of Jesus Christ when a shared Eucharist is not always possible. It is written in English and in Farsi and includes an act of Spiritual Communion.

Please do not hesitate to make contact if you feel Old Church could be of help to you at these exceedingly difficult times. Apart from anything else, it is undoubtedly a time for our prayer for others and for ourselves as the disease spreads.
